Chapter 2: The First People on the Land

Vocabulary:

  1. adapting - adjusting or changing to fit a specific use or situation

  2.  archaeologists - people who study evidence remaining from man's life in past ages

  3. burial - placing a dead body in a grave or the ground

  4. cache - a hole or similar hiding place to store something of value

  5. conflicts - disagreements or long battles

  6. drought - a long period with little or no rain

  7. environment - something that surrounds / everything that surrounds living things and affects growth and health

  8. mammoths - a type of large elephant once found in the northern hemisphere

  9. nomads - people who have no fixed home, but move from place to place

  10. smallpox - a disease causing chills, high fever, headaches, and pimples
